Written for the all-star film extravaganza of the same name, 'Casino Royale' fits the classy/wacky milieu of the movie perfectly. Heavily influenced by Broadway show tunes as well as then-current jazz-pop trends -- like the previous releases by Herb Alpert & the Tijuana Brass -- this tune is a breezy example of Bacharach having fun shifting melodies and tempos, all to great effect. There's a real Southern California feel to the whole affair, and it's like driving through Beverly Hills in a convertible Jaguar on a breezy, autumn afternoon. Elegant and completely fun at the same time, it's one of Bacharach's most innocent and infectious pieces of music.

The best thing abou the movie Casino Royale, excepting Dahli Lavi, was Herb Alpert's rendition of Bacharach's song. I believe it won the Oscar for best song. While the title sums up the contents, The Very Best of Herb Alpert (1999) does suffer from the odd omission and questionable entry - which is all the more noticeable as the whole thing clocks in at under three-quarters of an hour. Alpert is as close to a true renaissance man as was possible in the latter half of the 20th century. Sounds Like... is a 1967 album by the popular instrumental group Herb Alpert & the Tijuana Brass, the group's eighth.^[1]

The best-known song on this album may be the Burt Bacharach composition that was used as the title theme for the 1967 James Bond spoof Casino Royale. According to liner notes in the 2006 Shout!Factory CD release, the song was originally recorded with vocals, but Bacharach was dissatisfied with the recording. He sent the tapes to Herb Alpert, who overdubbed some trumpets and some Tijuana Brass instruments (most prominently marimba and percussion) and sent the song back to Bacharach. This version, with the Bacharach orchestra, rather than the Brass members, providing most of the backing, is the one included on the Sounds Like... album.

'In a Little Spanish Town' includes audience participation, which was worked into the stage version of the group's act in a humorous way. Alpert would ask the audience to clap their hands twice at the end of each bar of the chorus. On stage, trombonist Bob Edmondson would attempt to join the hand-clapping, having to hurriedly put down and pick up his trombone each time.

The song 'Wade in the Water' was also a popular concert number, according to Alpert, and was featured in the group's first television special in 1967.^[2]
